Smart Museum of Art

Join the Smart Museum of Art for a public celebration marking the opening of Classicisms, an exhibition that examines changing notions of classicism from antiquity to the 20th century through a diverse selection of paintings, ancient and modern sculpture, cast plaster replicas, and works on paper.

Join us for a public celebration marking the opening of the Smart Museum of Art's special exhibition Classicisms.

At 7:15 pm, the opening celebration features Dexter Zollicoffer, in the role of Paedagogus, performing a dramatic monologue from Court Theatre's recent production of the Greek tragedy Electra, followed by a brief conversation on presenting the classical for contemporary audiences between director Charles Newell and translator Nicholas Rudall.

Meet Alison Gass, the newly appointed Dana Feitler Director of the Smart Museum, join co-curators Larry Norman and Anne Leonard and other scholars from The University of Chicago for in-gallery conversations, and enjoy hors d’oeuvres and cocktails inspired by the exhibition.
