A father-son battle ensues within a Chicano family that raises fighting roosters. Gallo wants to exploit his son Hector’s prized rooster, and Hector argues that they should sell the animal and use the proceeds for family needs. Set in the American Southwest, the play blends drama and magical realism.
Through our Spotlight Reading Series, Court Theatre is partnering with local cultural organizations to produce and perform staged readings of plays by writers of color in various Chicago neighborhoods. Thanks to a grant from the Joyce Foundation, these rarely performed scripts are performed with the city’s top theatre talent, and all readings are free and open to the public.
