Jonathan Rosenbaum discusses Cinematic Encounters 2: Portraits and Polemics. He will be joined in conversation by Michael Phillips. A Q&A and signing will follow the discussion.

About the book: Eschewing the idea of film critic as solitary expert, Jonathan Rosenbaum mediates and facilitates the public discussion of two dozen filmmakers, ranging alphabetically from Chantal Akerman to Orson Welles.

About the author: Jonathan Rosenbaum, the film critic of the Chicago Reader from 1987 to 2008 and is the author, coauthor, editor, or coeditor of twenty books. He is currently teaching a film criticism workshop on campus and maintains a web site at jonathanrosenbaum.net.

About the interlocutor: Michael Phillips is the film critic for the Chicago Tribune.
