The Film Studies Center presents a screening of Harun Farocki's Parallel I-IV.
The four-part video series Parallel, Harun Farocki’s final work before his untimely death in 2014, continues his work on the politics and aesthetics of imaging technologies by exploring the digital worlds of videogames. Never before screened in its entirety in Chicago, the series raises questions about the status of verisimilitude and simulation in computer-generated graphics, the paradoxical spaces and boundaries of videogame environments, and the ethical relations between players and their avatars.
(Harun Farocki, Germany, 2012-2014, 43 min., digital video)
Curated by Mikki Kressbach & Jordan Schonig (CMS) as part of the Film Studies Center’s Graduate Student Curatorial Program.
