Description

Join us for a talk with Stephanie Boluk and Patrick LeMieux and walkthrough this history of metagaming alternative interfaces for people with limited manual dexterity. The talk will culminate with a showing of the Octopad, an eight-player controller for the Nintendo Entertainment System. Boluk is an associate professor at University of California, Davis. She is the co-author of Metagaming: Playing, Competing, Spectating, Trading, Making and Breaking Videogames. LeMieux is a media artists, game designer, and assistant professor in the Cinema and Digital Media Department at the University of California, Davis. His research and teaching explore the material practices and community histories of play, from speedrunning and esports. He is the co-author of Metagaming with Boluk.
