Over the past 125 years, the University of Chicago in Hyde Park has evolved as a destination for art and architecture. The campus’ earliest buildings in the Neo-Gothic architecture style remain a trademark of the University and a symbol of its scholarly legacy, but the institution now also encompasses new buildings designed by some of the most innovative and renowned architects in the world. We invited guests to explore our stunning architecture and diverse collection of public art during the 2015 Chicago Architecture Biennial when UChicago hosted a collection of art and architecture exhibitions, programs, performances, and tours throughout the campus. 

Highlights included Arts + Public Life’s exhibition Forms of Imaginations—presenting visions for the proposed new art center in Washington Park; the Arts, Science & Culture Initiative and the Department of Visual Arts’ program “Thomas Hirschhorn & Yasmil Raymond: A Conversation about the Gramsci Monument—A Living Sculpture"; Logan Center Exhibitions’ So-Called Utopias; the Neubauer Collegium for Culture and Society exhibitions Katarina Burin: Petra Andrejova-Molnár – Contribution and Collaboration, and Victor Burgin: Prairie; Smart Museum of Art’s artist talk with Jessica Stockholder in conversation with Sean Keller; and art and architecture tours of campus, including a hard-hat tour of the new Studio Gang-designed North Campus Residence Hall and Campus Edges shuttles tours.
