Award Period

November 26, 2012-September 20, 2013

Eligibility

Artists not currently enrolled in an academic program.
Must be 21 or older to apply.

Selection Criteria

Must be Chicago-based.
Merit of past work/demonstrated excellence in field.
Potential to develop creative practice and impact the communities of the University of Chicago, Washington Park neighborhood, and city of Chicago at large.
Readiness to engage with and benefit from the residency experience at the University of Chicago.

Selection Process

APL and CSRPC staff reviews applications to ensure completion and eligibility.
A jury of knowledgeable academics, artists, and arts professionals reviews submissions.
The jury and APL/CSRPC staff evaluates material and selects finalists.
Finalists are invited to participate in the 2012/13 Residency on November 12.

September 14, 2012: Select Round One Proposals invited to apply
September 17-October 1, 2012: Online Application Open
October 9-26, 2012: Deliberations
November 12, 2012: Selected Artist Residents Notified

Documentation

Please select from the following list of materials appropriate to your practice. The category headings are guidelines. Documentation is not required for first-round applicants submitting letters of interest.

Architecture / Environment

Arts Professionals (art writers, administrators, and curators)

Submit up to 15 pages of sufficient material to evidence the breadth of your work and interests, including reviews, essays, and catalogs (PDF format).

Film / Video / New Media

Submit up to 10 minutes of video online, by post, or via a file transfer system such as YouSendIt or DropBox.
Please do not submit files larger than 100MB online. Should you need to send a larger file, please submit your work sample by post.
Please note: the first 5 minutes will be used for primary review.

Music / Sound

Submit up to 10 minutes of audio and/or video online, by post, or via a file transfer system such as YouSendIt or DropBox. Audio samples sent via post should be copied on three identical CDs.
Please note: the first 5 minutes will be used for primary review.

Performance / Dance

Submit up to 10 minutes of video, along with any other material that adequately describes your work. Please do not submit files larger than 100MB online. Should you need to send a larger file, submit by post or via a file transfer system such as YouSendIt or DropBox.

Visual (painting, printmaking, photography, sculpture, installation, conceptual)

Submit up to 15 images, or up to 10 minutes of video and/or DVD.
Images must be accompanied by an image list with title, date, size, media, and, where applicable, conceptual intent (maximum height/width of 1240 pixels in .jpg or .gif format with a 300 dpi resolution).

Writing (poetry, fiction, nonfiction, playwriting, screenwriting)

Submit up to 10 pages (PDF format) of poetry, 15 pages of prose, or an excerpt from one to two full-length plays/scripts.

Interdisciplinary Arts

Review other categories as applicable to determine what materials you should submit.
