Forum as Form is an evolving installation of physical and social sculpture prototypes for communal dialogue and exchange. Inspired by historical and contemporary public forum models, Forum as Form opens the gallery for the public to envision urban spaces built upon values of cooperation, equity, justice, and sustainability. Forum as Form is presented by 2013/14 Arts + Public Life/Center for the Study of Race, Politics and Culture resident artist Andres L. Hernandez.
Forum as Form is comprised of two interrelated projects. Uneven Development Suite repurposes the gallery as the Washington Park field office for the Urban Vacancy Research Initiative, and includes a commissioned installation by artist Semaj L'rae. Debuting on Independence Day, Field Operations transforms a nearby vacant lot into "Hush Harbor," a pop-up public forum for open air lectures, readings, performances, potlucks, and arts activities held throughout the summer.
Forum as Form is presented by 2013/14 Arts + Public Life/Center for the Study of Race, Politics and Culture resident artist Andres L. Hernandez, and sponsored in part by Center for (E)utopian Imagination and Urban Vacancy Research Initiative.
