Arts Council Summer Fellowships
Call for Proposals
Recognizing the need to support the development of student work intended for performance, exhibition, or publication, the Arts Council announces the availability of Arts Council Summer Fellowships. These fellowships are designed to support enrolled students university-wide undertaking original creative projects over the summer. (Such projects might involve adaptation, choreography, sculpture, painting, drawing, multi-media, music composition, script-writing, or translation.) We seek to fund a wide variety of projects and disciplines. Generally, projects should be intended for production, performance, or publication during the following academic year.
Award: $1,500
Application deadline: April 20, 2012
Decisions announced: May 11, 2012
Submission Guidelines
Students must be currently enrolled full-time in the University and returning to full-time studies in academic year 2011/12. Both graduate and undergraduate students are eligible.
Please submit the following in one PDF attachment via email to arts-council@uchicago.edu.
- a cover letter with your name and contact information and:
- a detailed explanation of the project, including its perceived merits, and rationale
- a detailed account of the project’s relation to the applicant’s past experience and future goals
- two faculty references and contact information
- any and all other funding you will receive over the summer
- a resume
- a timeline for project development and completion leading to performance
- supporting material (sketches, written work, score, conceptual outline) with a maximum of five pages
If you do not receive confirmation of your submission within five days, please contact arts-council@uchicago.edu.
CDs and DVDs with media and any supporting materials should be delivered to the Theater and Performance Studies office, Reynolds 301. Clearly indicate your name and project title on the packet of additional materials. Materials will not be returned without pre-arrangement.
Individuals needing assistance writing a strong proposal should contact arts-council@uchicago.edu, or review a sample proposal.
Recipients of a Summer Fellowship will be required to submit documentation of completed projects to the Arts Council by the first Friday of the Fall Quarter. Documentation must consist of a 250-word explanation of the process and project and a documentation of the final product. These materials may be used on the arts.uchicago.edu website.
