From Spaces to Places: Public Art Walking Tours

UChicago Arts and the Office of Civic Engagement, in partnership with the Smart Museum of Art, offer free public art walking tours at scheduled intervals throughout spring/early summer and fall. Tours typically begin at Black Sphere and feature some of the highlights of the public art on campus, including Earth, Water, Sky, Nuclear Energy, Concrete Traffic, and Bench and Table. Tours are led by experienced arts/OCE staff and docents from the Smart Museum of Art, and emphasize the accessibility and tangibility of some of the most challenging artworks on the UChicago campus.

Fall tours are September 14 & 21, October 12 & 26, and November 9, 5:30-6:30pm. Space is limited, but sign-ups are available in advance at tickets.uchicago.edu. Visitors who are unable to make one of the scheduled guided tours are welcome to download a self-guided tour featuring other works at visit.uchicago.edu.

Our Public Art Walking Tours have recently been promoted in the Chicago Maroon, UChicago News, the Hyde Park Herald, and DNA Info.
