Date & Time
Friday, May 12, 2017 - 9:00 AM to Sunday, June 11, 2017 - 5:00 PM
The Logan Center for the Arts, the University Community Service Center, the Department of Romance Languages & Literatures, the France Chicago Center, and the College are pleased to host Pictures of Diversity: Migration and Dreaming Identity.
In part 1 (May 12-26), Christian Raby presents photographic portraits of immigrants in France in settings where elements of the subjects’ native and adopted cultural identities combine and interact. In part 2 (May 26-June 11), UChicago students present portraits of immigrants in Chicago—with short biographies of each subject—that they will have created and realized under Raby’s guidance.
Please join us on May 26 at 7:30pm for a panel discussion with the students and Raby in the Logan Center Cafe.
Raby’s most recent publication, Venus d’ailleurs, migration et identités rêvées, is a collection of photos that is a playful homage to the “painted backdrop portraiture” prevalent from the 1880s to the 1940s.
