The Arts Council fosters the creation and presentation of arts across the University through both direct grant opportunities and independent initiatives. Its goal is to make the arts part of the life of every member of the campus community.

Since its establishment in 2001, the Arts Council has provided more than half a million dollars in support for campus arts activities through five grant programs. Funded projects have ranged from hip-hop performances to literary journals, film festivals to puppetry workshops, summer fellowships to new course development.

The Arts Council’s flagship program is Artspeaks, a series dedicated to showcasing the achievements of contemporary creative minds. Artspeaks provides an intimate setting for public presentations and insightful conversations with acclaimed artists. Series artists also engage in workshops offering students and faculty a unique opportunity to learn from some of the world’s brightest creators. Previous seasons have included such artists as Neil Gaiman, John Zorn, Bill T. Jones, Atom Egoyan, Uri Caine, and Peter Sellars.
